TYPES OF CARPET
There are a variety of choices when it comes to carpet types. These types are divided according to how the fibers are attached to the carpet backing. Some of these types according to fiber attachment are the textured, patterned, frieze, plush and level loop types. There are also various fiber materials that are used to make carpets. A carpet can have wool and other natural fibers, or sometimes, synthetic fibers. There are four popular types of fibers that are used when making carpets:
- 1. Nylon is a popular carpet fiber. It is known for its durability and its inability to be resistant from stains; however, when nylon fiber is made into carpet, it is treated with a stain-resistant solution during manufacturing. Because of this, nylon fiber is known as a good carpet fiber which is why it is widely used.
- 2. Polyester is stain-resistant and has many varieties of colors. These are the reasons why it is also a popular carpet fiber. It is fade-resistant and is the most affordable among the fiber materials used for carpets. The only downside to this fiber is that it is not as durable and resilient as nylon.
- 3. Natural wool is a great fiber material for carpets. For starters, it is naturally stain-resistant and is highly durable. It takes years for wool to get worn down. On the other hand, wool can also hold up moisture which would require ample care and attention when it comes to cleaning. This fiber material is the most expensive of them all.
- 4. Triexta is a new fiber material used in carpets. It was initially defined as a polyester because of the similarity of their chemical composition and just like polyester, it is also stain-resistant. What makes it different is that it is more durable than polyester and can last longer in consistent foot traffic.
